“RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE IN SANTA POLA”
“Canons roar! Drums are beating! And seven thousand people are starting to run in the Santa Pola Half Marathon. Some are in fancy dress; some are pushing prams – one had twins in it! And there, determined to break his 2 hour 6 minute record of last year, is Jake Lowe, running on behalf of MABS Cancer Support Group.”  So says Jan Wright, a MABS Cancer Support Group Volunteer Carer reporting on the January 24th event.

Javea Race for Life.

MABS Cancer Support Group is now able  to report that the Group has been handed a cheque for €1.198 by the organisers of the Javea Race For Life. In previous years this event has benefited MABS alone but this year the organisers decided to share the proceeds with AECC Javea and Aspanion who each received a percentage of the money raised.

"MABS wishes to thank all of the runners who made the physical effort to support us and all of our sponsors who donated time, money or talent to help make the event a reality. Without the support of you all we could not survive and continue to do the work that we do" a MABS spokes person said.

"Next year we intend to diversify and in addition to our now well established event in Pego (that raised over €3000 this year) we are expecting to hold our main event in the Moraira/Teulada area. We hope that all our friends from Javea will continue to support us, whether they are using the race to prepare for 2012 Olympics, to get some essential exercise or just to have fun."

The Group is expanding fast and we always need money. We also need volunteers  to act as supporters to people with, or being affected by cancer, or to drive, translate or carry out some of the many part time tasks that need doing. Interested? Then please contact via the enquiry form on this web site (click here), or use one of the telephone numbers listed. We are particularly keen to speak to individuals, male or female, of any age who have suffered from cancer themselves or who have nursed and supported somebody through the illness.

Skydive in to help a friend.
Bryan Buswell has been friends with Lee Jones for over twenty years, best friends in fact, and so when Bryan heard that Lee had been diagnosed with a brain tumour he knew he had to do something to help. He did.

His choice of doing more – a sponsored Skydive, to raise money for Cancer Charities. Bryan has a wife and child but they gave their blessing to Bryan doing this leap to help those who were helping his friend.

Bryan completed his first ever jump over Oxford in the UK at the end of the summer and due to the generosity of friends and work colleagues raised £3500.

MABS CANCER SUPPORT GROUP NEEDS YOU!
Most of us have visited and spent time cheering up a friend who is poorly, relieving some of the boring routine for them if they are in hospital or to make them a drink if they are at home recovering from surgery. It doesn’t happen often so we are pleased to be of help. MABS Cancer Support Group Carers are dedicated Volunteers who make such visits, not just occasionally but daily, to people who are at home, in hospital, going for a routine check up or just needing a cheering voice.
