| TO GIBRALTAR AND BACK - ON A BIKE Triumphant and looking remarkably healthy, five weary and perhaps saddle sore, cyclists rode into Camposol to a tumultuous welcome at 3 pm on Tuesday afternoon the 15th of September. They had returned from a remarkable journey of 1200 kilometres that took them from Camposol to Gibraltar and back in just 9 days. They had undertaken the cycle ride in memory of a close friend, who had passed away in 2008 from cancer and were, determined that MABS Cancer Support Mazarron should benefit from their epic journey. A Fiesta style atmosphere abounded as many of MABS Mazarron volunteers and Friends of MABS, wearing their grey tee shirts bearing the MABS logo had been preparing for the boy’s homecoming most of the morning. Men up ladders hanging buntings, BBQ's being prepared, wonderful cakes and sausage rolls had been made for the cake stall, raffles and bottle tombola, all kindly donated. Barclays bank had also sent some of their staff to help in this event and many enjoyed cooking sausages and beef burgers for all. There was a buzz in the air waiting for the cyclists as well as Trevor, who unfortunately was unable to take part in the bike ride as he intended, saw an arch of balloons rise, much to the delight of his baby grandson. Mayor Blaya and Councillor Jacqueline Galvez along with the Sports Councillor Pablo from Mazarron Town Hall, their Press photographer and camera crew from Mazarron television; were there to meet the lads alongside, what seemed hundreds of people who had come to give a rapturous welcome. The reception was held in the lower car park of Sector B which had been closed off. The Inside Out team had organised the barriers to cordon off the car park. AM/PM Security were there to give their support and in their vehicle, together with Harley Davidson motor bikes, led the small cavalcade which escorted the cyclists on the last leg of the journey back to Camposol. A sudden downpour did not stop the celebrations that continued in the T.J’s bar until late into the night.
