HOW YOU CAN JOIN IN
In addition to helping us by becoming a volunteer or helper, you can join in and support us throughout the year through fund raising activities, big and small alike.
Sponsorships. One way is to get sponsorships for yourself or a team of friends or work colleagues for one of our 'big events'. One of the most popular is the Race for Life, which always attracts a lot of people. And the MABS ball is great value too. Go to the Race for Life page for entry details.
Organise something yourself.
Another way - and really great fun - is to organise an event yourself. It could be a barbecue, a ''bring-and-buy' event, or a paella cooking competition - anything that will make a great day and raise money to help people with cancer cope more easily with life.
- Get your local bar/restaurant to do a raffle, or put a jar on the bar for MABS. We can supply a sticky label.
- Do a sponsored walk, bike ride or swim.
- Organise a village walk, talk and lunch.
- Get sponsorships for a slimming target, head shave, soapless beard shave (ouch), or any of the things that people get up to for events such as Red Nose Day.
- Hold a coffee morning, BBQ, paella party, Robbie Burns night, St Patrick's Day supper, and charge a fee or do a raffle.
- Offer prizes with a small entrance fee to guess the weight of a cake, or how many buttons, golf tees, copper coins, beer tops, ring pulls etc there are in a jar.
It was these efforts, supported by hundreds of people and together with generous sponsorship by particular companies, that have allowed us to open our new Cancer Support Centre at Sol Park in Moraira.
A huge thank you to all those who have helped get where we are today - and a warm welcome to those of you who are inspired to take us to the future. |

Dogs Too? Race for Life, Murcia 2008. |
Kerry Lawrie was on a special mission at this year’s 2009 Glasgow Half Marathon – she was raising money for MABS Murcia/Mar Menor, in memory of her dad, Ronnie, who sadly lost his battle with cancer in June this year.
Ronnie had been a Fireman with the Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service for 32 years and it was always his dream to retire to Spain, because he was never really a fan of the ‘dreich’ Scottish weather. He enjoyed playing golf and cycling and moved to Los Urrutias, on the Mar Menor, in April 2006, with his wife, Moira. He was a very brave man and embraced whatever challenge he was faced with in life, but he was unable to overcome the biggest challenge of all when he contracted cancer. MABS was there to support Ronnie and Moira through the whole thing. Picture: Kerry with her friend Hilary Smith. |
