The MABS Summer Ball

Every year, we have this grand event - this year it was attended by 300 people and raised over €8,000.

MABS is a cancer support group and last week it held its annual summer ball at the Salon Canor in Teulada. The event also marked 10 years since MABS was founded by president Jacqui Philips MBE and vice president Frances Sawyer.

Three hundred tickets were sold and the ticket included a superb meal followed by a tribute band ABBA Elite and DJ Darrell. The president thanked those who had sponsored the ball and provided support during the year. The president went on to say that without the money, skills or services of these sponsors the charity could not function .

She also thanked the media, newspapers and radio that have given much needed publicity over the last 10 years. It is this publicity which gives people who are affected by cancer the awareness of what MABS is able to do to help. Their new support centre in Sol Park, Moraira, is now open .

"In order to support the large geographic spread we now cover", she said, "we are indebted to the 300 plus volunteers who give their time freely and to the medical professionals here in Spain, but we must thank, very sincerely, those individuals who have won, or who are winning, their battle with Cancer and now give of their time to help others."

MABS Ball, June 2009, raised over €8.000 for help pay for care and services for cancer patients and their families.
